| October 9-11, 2008 | Alexandria, MN | Mindful Living: Healthy Churches, Healthy People, Healthy Planet
This is the 2008 national conference sponsored by the Eco-Justice Working Group of the National Council of Churches. The National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Division presents this unique opportunity to learn about the world of toxics. From children's toys to water bottles to household cleaning products, the variety and quantity of dangerous toxics in our daily lives is ever increasing. Join this ecumenical gathering of denominational staff, clergy, seminarians, lay leaders, eco-justice coordinators, and Christians to educate yourself on the unfolding world of toxics found in everyday items. Learn what you can do to remove these chemicals from your home, your church, and your life. Event information and registration details are found at www.nccecojustice.org/mnconf.htm |
| November 28, 2008 | US and Worldwide | Buy Nothing Day
The day after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year in the US. Buy Nothing Day is a grassroots campaign that uses this day of frenzied buying to question and challenge the unsustainable consumer binge of Western nations. Buy Nothing Day can be an effective way for churches to emphasize the spiritual meaning of the Christmas season over the material. Posters, "gift exemption certificates," and suggestions for protest activities are available on the Adbusters website, adbusters.org/campaigns/bnd/ |
| April 22, 2009 | Worldwide | Earth Day
Our website always has links to worship resources suitable for this occasion. We will list materials developed for specifically 2009 as they become available. The eco-justice program of the National Council of Churches generally prepares church-based resources for Earth Day. Download the resources for previous years from the website of the NCC Eco-Justice Programs (a simple registration is required to download). |
