| Over 200 people representing at least 40 area congregations attended the People of Faith Step It Up rally -- you will have to scroll to the right to see the whole group!
The three featured speakers (US Rep. Diana DeGette, Environment Colorado Director Matt Baker, and Eco-Justice Ministries' Rev. Peter Sawtell) and the band Soul Purpose from Columbine United Church, are in front of the Step It Up banner. The rally was held at First Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ -- a "Partner Church" with Eco-Justice Ministries. The host team from First Plymouth, drawn mostly from the "Whole Earth" committee, did a fantastic job of managing complex logistics: creating banners and staging, arranging child care options and food, and recuiting volunteers. They dealt creatively and gracefully with the plans for being outside -- then inside -- then back outside that came from rapidly changing weather. A predicted snowstorm turned into a beautiful spring day. |
| The display area had information exhibits, displays from religious agencies working on climate change, including Eco-Justice Ministries and Colorado Interfaith Power & Light, There were tables where people made personal pledges for action on climate change (68 people turned in pledge slips!), and there was lots of great food! |
| US Rep. Diana DeGette spoke to the rally. She is a congressional leader in working for strong climate change legislation, represents the Denver and north Englewood district where the rally was held, and is a member of Montview Boulevard Presbyterian church in Denver.
Montview Presbyterian is one of the churches that had a large delegation at the rally. |
